LIFE

Where did you grow up? I grew up in a small town called Linstead, located in St. Catherine, Jamaica. It is the central part of the island.

How was life growing up? Growing up was simple and fun. Many would consider it a struggle, but it taught me to embrace and appreciate the simpler things in life.

How is the USA different from Jamaica? The difference is the opportunities as far as employment and the dollar value. The diversity of people can also be a culture shock.

Did your parents make music or DJ? My Mother sang in the church choir. I have other family members who were more into the music business. I also had access to a sound system growing up.

What struggles have you dealt with in life? I dealt with losing my twin at birth. For most of my life, I felt an emptiness. I always wonder how my life would have been if she were here. I also struggled with abandonment issues. I felt like people were walking out of my life at a young age.

What is your reading now? I am currently reading recipes. I am in the process of putting my recipes together to publish a recipe book.

I heard you are a chef, is that true? Yes, I am a Caribbean cuisine Chef. However, I operate a catering company Yaad Flava here in Atlanta, GA.

PROCESS & PRODUCTION

When did you become an artist? I started writing music in 2017 and would record songs here and there with family members. In 2020, however, I decided to take it seriously and start releasing music.

Do you write your music? Yes. I write my music.

What is your songwriting process? Before I write anything, I try and find a flow first. I would hum the rhythm and find the flow. Then I start adding words.

Will you ever get into music production? I am open to music production. I am teaching myself daily and running it on songs by myself.

Why is music important? Music allows me to express my feelings and emotions. It is easier to express myself through a song than to speak it out loud.

MUSIC CAREER

How do you separate yourself from other artists? I make my style unique in the way I organize my songs. From the hooks to adlibs

Who influences your style? Different artists across genres play a part in my creativity. Masicka, Vybz Kartel, Usher, and Busta Rhymes.

Who is your favorite Dj, and why? My two favorite DJs are Dj Renaldo Creative and Dj Ice Mike. These two DJs believed in my journey and were always willing to help me better my craft.

What artist or producer would you like to work with next? I would be honored to work with Dun-Well and Masicka.

You are about to release your debut album. Tell us about that project.  Above all, The project depicts my love for and appreciation of women.

It’s feel-good music with different aspects of Jamaican music culture. Furthermore, It is a blend of Lovers Rock, Dancehall, and Reggae.

What projects have you done? Money on my Mind is the next project I am releasing. However, I finished this project before Royalty but decided to pull it back down.

CONNECT

How do you Inspire people? I try to stay positive and supportive. I Understand that none of us is perfect. I focus on individual strengths and not weaknesses.

What can we expect from this project? A good feeling if you have never been to the island. I want my fans to be able to listen and feel the experience. However, Royalty will be available on my website www.yaadflava.com. It will also be available on streaming platforms.

Do you have merch? I am working on merch which will be available on my website shortly.

Anything else you would like to add? I appreciate the time spent today to allow my fans to get to know me better.

Would you ever consider teaching music? I am not opposed to it either.

I Will push myself to the limit. Win$ton J and Yaad Flava will become household name. Thank you, and I look forward to serving the community with good food and great music.
